Christmas Hack! How to Style Your Table

table setting hacks

At salt&pepper, we are all about making memories.

It’s these small moments that make Christmas special. So pop open those Christmas crackers and put on your paper crown — it’s time to get festive!

But what do you do if your Christmas turkey is a disaster? Step one: Don’t stress! Step Two: Distract them with your stunning table setting. When your table looks this good no one will even notice if chrissy lunch is a little overcooked.

This week we want to show you how to style your table to absolute perfection. Plus with a guide this easy even your family will be asking when you had time to take an interior design course! Whatever your style is — we have a table setting for you.

MODERN AUSTRALIAN CHRISTMAS

We’re big fans of the Christmas lunch  — but with a bit of an Aussie twist. We’re making Christmas our own with this table setting.

That’s right, ditch the roast (it’s too hot anyway) and plate up some fresh seafood. Go for prawns, oysters and even some Moreton Bay bugs for a lunch that no one will forget.

It all begins with the perfect dinnerware set. Choose classic dinnerware, but with a modern spin (like a unique texture or design) to really elevate your meal. Pair it with wine glasses — we especially love unique shapes and colours to really add a point of interest to the table. Place out matching tumblers and a jug of icy water to keep your guests happy and hydrated. Finish with napkins to keep the mess to a minimum, a festive scented candle to set the mood and some beautiful greenery that acts as a centerpiece!

VIBRANT NIGHT

Ditch the red and green this year and try out something different. This vibrant table setting is perfect for those of you who want to match your bright and bubbly personality.

Think blushy pinks and purple hues for this table spread. The key to this design is all in the layering. Begin with your favourite tablecloth and placemat for the perfect base. Layer up those plates, bowls and side plates — the more colours the better! Then finish with a napkin and your best cutlery. The best part about a colourful dinnerware setting is that everything doesn’t have to match. Keep up the fun atmosphere with a jug of spritz or cocktails. If you’re really feeling the celebratory spirit you can also pop a bottle of bubbly. Just don’t forget your champagne flutes!

MONOCHROME SOPHISTICATION

Sometimes simple is best. There is something classic and timeless about a monochrome setting for Christmas — you want to keep it low-key or make it a sophisticated affair this year.

A monochrome setting is perfect for celebrating with a partner, or when you want to impress the in-laws. Keep it cool with a sandy based tablecloth and napkins and choose simple dinnerware in black and white shades. What makes a monochrome table setting really come alive is in the finishing touches. We love using bold silver hued salad servers or serving platters to ensure that the black and white really pops.

To bring some warmth add a simple candle holder and tapered candle. Simply light and you’re ready to entertain — and of course eat your delicious culinary creations!

Perfect your table with our monochrome table setting edit and you’ll be an expert in interior design without the effort!

TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS CHEER

We admit it, there is something special about a Christmas roast. Sometimes you just want to have the perfect traditional table setting — with a bunch of holly and all.

It’s time to put on the Christmas carols playlist, get out your dinnerware and set the table. We love the warmth of clay or neutral coloured napkins and placemats, paired with a simple organic dinnerware layout. Don’t forget the best part of Christmas lunch? Dessert of course! Make the dessert the star of the show with a glass cake stand — everyone loves a trifle! Finish it off with a vase for your centrepiece with some greenery and you’re done!
